Default Counter strike has Lan Parties as Guild Wars has...

So you saw my title. I know its a little off-topic depending on how you see it.
I am focusing on guild wars here.

Does guild wars have any lan parties or stations across the world to see who is the best player and what not?

GW has Monthly Automated Tournaments. The winner is the "best" guild at the moment, in a way.

MATs are really not that important though. It doesn't really show who the best guild/players are.

Back in the day, there were international tournaments sponsored by ArenaNet, with actual cash prizes, such as the GWFC.

There are no 1v1 tournaments, if that's what you were getting at.

I'm not sure that a LAN party would work for GW.

CS can be hosted on one computer and can easily be installed on one of the machines on the same LAN. That is a great way to equalize pings and eliminate lag as a factor.

GW, on the other hand, most likely resides on a server farm. I don't know if it would be possible to spawn part of it on a separate LAN. Probably, the closest you would come would be to have all the players on a LAN which then connects to the game servers through one main connection. That might equalize ping/lag. That may have been what ANet did for their tournaments.

My guild and I have had a few LAN parties for GW. On a FIOS connection we were able to have up to 8 of us playing with no real lag.

Interesting. I am just seeing what Guild wars has to offer outside the basement in a cooked up room in the house.

Same here but instead my friends and I made new characters and played through prophecies and factions without the use of heroes.

People being in the same room playing Guild Wars together on their own pc's is a LAN party in my book. Who cares if it's not through LAN but through internet.

Anyway, I occasionally come together with some friends to play some Guild Wars, but as far as I know there isn't any event supported by Anet anymore.

Lan parties are great, but I was talking about the bigger picture.

So when those big group of people 100+ go to a stadium/gym etc, they dont have internet?Just because the game the people are playing is hosted by themself and only they go on it doesnt meant they dont have internet, nice try moron, but you fail at being smart.

Anyways, obviously GW cant be played on a lan, but there are many people that host lan parties to play GW,there might just not be any in your area.

this

substituted for MAT's to just automate it

also allowed gw to just give out in game rewards as opposed to real world cash prizes

I'll bite - what's gwlp?

(I wish people would stop assuming that everyone knows what every random bunch of initials stands for.)

If a bunch of people hook up in a LAN (router) which then connects to a game through the internet, it's still a LAN party.

Here you go, Quaker.
Unfortunately I think GWLP has died off.

no.

although when it was young there were hosted international money tournaments for top pvp guilds/teams. unfortunately, for whatever reason, WoW became a pro esport and gw did not.

An incredibly large playerbase will do often do that. (case and point: Halo and Super Smash Brothers, neither of which are particularly difficult/skill based games but still sponsored en large as e-sports because of their mass appeal)
